FTP Tutorial

What is Ftp?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. FTP software will allow you to transfer files from storage space on your hard drive to storage space on a Web server. FTP allows you to access your files from any remote computer and supports multiple file uploads.

FTP clients all work in generally the same way. You make your connection to the FTP server, and then use some means to copy files from your computer to the server.

To connect to your server, any FTP client will require certain information. These categories may be referred to with different-but-similar names:
Linux Server Setup:
Hostname/Server name/Server: ftp.yourdomain.com
Username: Your FTP username@yourdomain.com
Password: Your FTP password
Port: 21

Windows Server Setup:
Hostname/Server name/Server: ftp.yourdomain.com
Username: Your FTP username
Password: Your FTP password
Port: 21

If there are other fields, try connecting while leaving those fields blank.

Note: Make sure you upload any web files into:
Linux Server: /var/www/html folder.
Windows Server: /wwwroot folder.

Those are the files that will load when people visit your site.
